During our visit to Durango, we decided to stay at a bed and breakfast about 10 miles outside of the town. We could not have been more pleased with our accomodations. It was awesome. The owners, Walter and Jody, went out of their way to make us feel welcome. It started with the most wonderful chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted! When we arrived, Jody showed us around so we could get a feel for the place. She then informed us that Walter was the resident chef and that he not only prepared breakfast but also dessert every night. I believe her quote was to not plan on sticking to any diet while there :) The first night was fruit dipped in chocolate. Yummy! It was Bananas Foster on the second night and Flourless Chocolate Cake with Caramel Sauce on the third night (Walter did inform of this that morning before the mega hike. Hmmmm....maybe I subconsciously felt I needed to go further ;)
A couple of mornings, we sat out on the deck, had our breakfast, and enjoyed the company of a few visitors.....
We did some bird watching while we enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts that Walter prepared. This guy is a great cook!
Also, the rooms were very comfy. Everyday we had a very special visitor to our room :) A very sweet kitty cat!
And I loved the way everything was situated. There was a cozy common area that made it very easy to get to know some of our fellow travelers. We met a nice Swiss couple who were on a tour of the Southwest, and a mom and son from Boston who were visiting a school in the area. I don't think you will get the same opportunity to meet people at a hotel!!
Russell and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Country Sunshine B&B. Russell was saying that we really need to recommend this to our friends who come up to Colorado. He's right! Walter and Jody were awesome hosts and the setting was so peaceful. I think everyone could use a little Country Sunshine :)
